Security for Embedded Systems

We provide security for small embedded systems, either  especially designed or compatible with existing standards. As embedded systems are limited in memory, computational power and service, implementation of proven secure algorithms and protocols is always a challenge. Careful system design and implementation allows for secure embedded systems.

Security methods usually cover one or more of the following topics:

Privacy

Protection of the communication contents from eavesdroppers. This is usually enforced by encryption methods.

Authenticity

Even if the information itself is not considered to be kept secret, it could be essential for the system, that the communication is authentic and not faked by a malicious attacker. This is usually enforced by cryptographic protocols.

Authorisation

This is gaining access to critical resources like the parameter section of an embedded device. Usually this areas are protected by simple passwords or “service codes”. Cryptographic methods allow for a more secure protection of authorisation.

Cryptographic methods could be used to improve the security of

  • Data communication
  • Authentication
  • Authorisation

Our Goal

Our main target is the implementation of well-established cryptographic protocols to small embedded systems for interoperability with existing infrastructures. We design and implement such algorithms in small embedded systems.
