Challenges
A new extended system based on the existing analogue 5/4 switch ASIC was required.
Solution
In a first phase in the context of the EC project (4th Framework) LAP (Large Area panel Processing) a prototype was developed on a thin film substrate on ceramic basis with integrated passive components. This system needed an additional laminate carrier.
Additionally four controller ICs for a digital switching protocol were integrated. In a second step the commercialisation of the system was realised using a Sequential Build Up (SBU) laminate.

Benefits
Increased functionality and efficiency, together with reduced complexity of the motherboard resulted in a considerable reduction of manufacturing costs, thereby obviating the need for a new ASIC design.
